In the Community
Red Cross The mission of the American Red Cross is to provide relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. Our organization is led by a core of 1,400 volunteers. The Seton Hill University Football Team joined our volunteer workforce and worked hard to help relocate our chapter headquarters to a new facility that will better serve the community. Their support of our organization and mission of community service is monumental. As partners together, we make our community a better place to live. Our hats are off to this great group of men who willingly gave their time to help the community.

April 9, 2009 (Forest Hills, PA ) - On Sunday, April 5, members of the Seton Hill University Football Team displayed their commitment to the community by donating their time and manpower for a spring clean up project at Juniper Village at Forest Hills. Juniper Village at Forest Hills is an independent and assisted living community which also provides special programming for memory care.

Seton Hill University Head Football Coach Joel Dolinski and the assistant coaches arrived with the entire football team, over 50 football players. The student athletes raked, trimmed and cleaned the exterior of the senior housing residence.

Coach Dolinski said that the football staff has three primary expectations of the student athletes. First, the young men are taught that academics come first and they need to maintain their grades. Second, being a football player requires a strong commitment and work ethic on and off the field, so they must train and play hard. Third, they are taught to be good people and good citizens, and need to give back to the community. "As student athletes they are role models and given many opportunities. We like them to have a sense of appreciation for what they are given, naturally and through being a student athlete at Seton Hill," said Dolinski.

"We were very excited to have so many young people donating their time and energy to make our community more beautiful. The football team did a great job and the residents and staff really appreciate all of the student athletes hard work," exclaimed Janet Wangler, Executive Director for Juniper Village.

Seton Hill College's Head Football Coach, Joel Dolinski, couldn't agree more noting, "The spring clean up project was a great way for our players to reach out to the community. Service projects like this helps our players see how the skills, cooperation, and teamwork that they use on the field can be applied to everyday life. We thank Juniper Village for the invitation, and look forward to helping them again next spring."

Other community service work the football players have done includes moving the Red Cross offices and assisting with the needs of a local church to name but a few.
Football team host YMCA camp group at practice
The Griffin football team hosted a group of kids from the YMCA day camp during one of their practices before beginning the season. The group watched practice before enjoying time interacting with the team on the field.

Dear Coach,
On behalf of myself, other counselors, and the kids we again wanted to say THANK YOU!!! We all had such a wonderful experience today. The kids absolutely loved it, especially the time they had on the field! Your players were AWESOME with them and great role models. I am sure this field trip will be one of their favorite camp memories of the summer. Please send our thanks to all the coaches, players, and staff that made today possible. Have a great season!

Sincerely,
Amanda Hixson

Dear Seton Hill Griffins:
Thank you for volunteering at the Children's Hospital Heart to Heart picnic today. My family and I (including my five year old son who is a heart patient) enjoyed the picnic and we all thought the football team did such a super job. These young men were sweet, helpful, polite and attentive. Good job guys!
