Undergraduate Student Gift Aid
Traditional undergraduate students at Seton Hill University will be considered for both merit based gift aid and need based gift aid.

MERIT BASED GIFT AID (Activities or Special Talents)
Seton Hill offers numerous merit scholarships to incoming students on the basis of academic excellence, demonstrated achievement in extra-curricular activities or special talents. Financial need is not a consideration in determining eligibility for merit based aid.  Awards are made after the student is admitted to the University.

TYPES OF MERIT BASED AID

FULL-TUITION DIVISION SCHOLARSHIPS
Four scholarships are awarded annually; one in each of the following academic divisions based on the student's selected major field of study:

  • Humanities
  • Visual and Performing Arts
  • Natural and Health Sciences
  • Social Sciences

Students applying to Seton Hill with the intention of earning a degree in Education are required to declare an undergraduate major in one of the four academic divisions and are therefore eligible to compete for the Seton Scholarship in the division that offers the chosen major. These scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen who demonstrate outstanding scholarship and talent in one of the traditional undergraduate programs of study. Valued at more than $100,000 each, the scholarships are renewable a total of eight (8) semesters of study at Seton Hill as long as the student maintains a cumulative grade point average of 3.3. Scholarship recipients are chosen by the division faculty based on criteria set by each Division. These scholarships cannot be combined with any other scholarship or grants from Seton Hill University. For additional information on specific criteria, please contact the Admissions Office.

PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS - Offered to all students who meet the criteria and are unconditionally admitted to the University.

Elizabeth Seton:
This scholarship is awarded to incoming freshmen who have attained a cumulative high school GPA of 3.9 or higher. They are valued at $9,000 annually and are renewable for a total of eight (8) semesters as long as the student maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.3 at the end of each academic year.

Aloysia Lowe:
This scholarship is awarded to incoming freshmen who have attained a cumulative high school GPA of 3.7 or higher. They are valued at $8,000 annually and are renewable for a total of eight (8) semesters as long as the student maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.3 at the end of each academic year.

Mary Schmidt:
This scholarship is awarded to incoming freshmen who have attained a cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 or higher. They are valued at $7,000 annually and are renewable for a total of eight (8) semesters as long as the student maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.3 at the end of each academic year.

Francesca Brownlee:
This scholarship is awarded to incoming freshmen who have attained a cumulative high school GPA between 3.0 and 3.49. They are valued at $6,000 annually and are renewable for a total of eight (8) semesters as long as the student maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.0 at the end of each academic year.

SAT/ACT Seton Hill University Scholarships:
The scholarships are awarded to students who achieve SAT scores of 900 or higher or ACT scores of 19 and higher. These scholarships are valued at the following amounts:

These scholarships will be added to the Presidential Scholarship amounts if a student meets both criteria. These scholarships are renewable for a total of eight (8) semesters as long as the student maintains a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.3 at the end of each academic year.

HONORS SCHOLARSHIP
Honors scholarships are awarded to incoming freshman who enroll in the Honors Program. These awards are valued at $2,500 per year and are renewable for a total of eight (8) semesters. This scholarship is renewable as long as the student remains in the Honors Program and maintains a G.P.A. of 3.3.

LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIPS
These prestigious awards are given to incoming freshmen based on their academic achievement, co-curricular accomplishments and demonstrated FINANCIAL NEED. These awards may be combined with other institutional awards and are renewable for a total of eight (8) semesters.

COMMUNITY SERVICE SCHOLARSHIPS
Community Service Scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen who have made notable contributions and achievements in community service and show demonstrated FINANCIAL NEED. These awards may be combined with other institutional awards and are renewable for a total of eight (8) semesters.


CARITAS COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD
The Caritas Community Service Award is awarded to two students enrolled full time in a traditional undergraduate program who have demonstrated commitment to and involvement in community service. Each award, valued at $3,500, can be combined with other forms of Seton Hill University merit-based financial aid; however, the sum of SHU merit-based aid and the Caritas Community Service Award cannot exceed the cost of tuition and mandatory fees. Throughout their college years, Caritas Community Service Award recipients take an active role in community service and participate in a minimum of 100 hours of community service per semester. DIVISION SCHOLARSHIPS
Division scholarships are awarded to incoming freshman students who show promise in their chosen field of study. These awards are renewable for a total of eight (8) semesters as long as the student maintains a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.3.

ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIPS
Alumni Scholarships:

The awards are provided to any student who has a parent that has graduated from Seton Hill University. They are valued up to $2,500/year and are renewable for a total of eight (8) semesters of full time study as long as the student maintains academic standards as established by the University.

Sister de Chantal Leis Alumna Scholarship:
This scholarship is awarded to an incoming student, preference given to children of a graduate of Seton Hill. Renewable for three (3) consecutive years provided the student maintains all academic requirements and University standards stipulated by the Alumnae Board.

Joseph C. Cahill Scholarship:
This scholarship was established to encourage children and grandchildren of Seton Hill graduates to attend the University. Preference is given to students not receiving extensive financial aid from other sources.

ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS
Seton Hill, a member of the NCAA Division II, awards athletic scholarships to eligible incoming students based on their athletic ability, an evaluation at open try-outs, and recommendations of their high school coaches. Athletic aid is offered to qualified women who participate in basketball, cross country, equestrian, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball and to qualified men who participate in baseball, basketball, cross country, equestrian, football, lacrosse, soccer, track and field, and wrestling.

RISING STAR SCHOLARSHIPS
Two components of the undergraduate portion include:

  1. A scholarship of up to $2,500 will be awarded to graduates of Catholic High Schools who enroll as first-year, full-time students in a Bachelor's degree program at Seton Hill University in the academic year immediately following their high school graduation. This scholarship is renewable annually for 4 years for students who maintain normal academic progress as defined in the university catalog.
  2. Students who complete coursework in Seton Hill's College in High School Program will also be eligible for this additional scholarship. These awards are based on the number of Seton Hill credits accumulated throughout the students' high school academic experience: 1-3 credits – $500; 4-6 credits – $750; 7 or more credits – $1000. These one-time only awards are for full-time, first-year students who enroll in a Bachelor's degree program at Seton Hill University immediately upon graduation from high school.

SISTERS OF CHARITY SCHOLARSHIPS
Annual awards, which are renewable for 4 years, are made to students who are recommended by a Sister of Charity to attend Seton Hill University.

SETON HILL UNIVERSITY SIBLING GRANT

Established in 1987 in recognition of the financial burden of having more than one child in college at the same time.  An award of up to $2,500 per student will be granted when two undergraduate students are attending Seton Hill University full-time concurrently.  An additional award of up to $2,500 will be awarded per family for each additional full-time undergraduate student attending concurrently. 

NEED BASED GIFT AID

Need based gift aid is awarded based on the results of the Fee Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and includes grants from the federal and state government.

TYPES OF NEED BASED GIFT AID

Seton Hill University Grant

Awarded to full time undergraduate students who are making academic progress and show demonstrated financial need based on the results of the FAFSA form.

Federal Pell Grant

Awarded to full time and part time undergraduate students.  Eligibility is determined by the results of the FAFSA form, the schools cost of attendance, and the students enrollment and academic progress.  For the 2011-12 academic year, grant amounts range from $555.00 to $5,550.00.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant

Awarded to full time undergraduate students who are making academic progress and show demonstrated financial need based on the results of the FAFSA form.  Amounts can vary based on the students demonstrated financial need and available resources. 

PHEAA State Grants

Awarded to full time and part time undergraduate students who are making academic progress and show demonstrated financial need based on the results of the FAFSA form, (filed by May 1),and residency status as determined by the PHEAA Grant Agency.  For the 2011-12 academic year, grant amounts range from $500.00 to $4,348.00. 

Grants From Other States

If you reside in a reciprocal state, you may qualify for a state grant and be able to bring your grant into Pennsylvania.  The amounts may vary. Please contact your state agency about application procedures and deadline dates for the following states:  CT, DE, MA, ME, OH, RI, VT, WV, and DC
