Religious Studies/Theology Program

Religion has emerged as a significant reality in the global world of the twenty-first century. Leaders who are prepared for their work will have an understanding of the power and importance of religion both in history and today. Courses at Seton Hill offer students a rich opportunity to prepare themselves for the century ahead and deepen their understanding of spiritual, ethical and religious values.

Classes focus on the diverse expressions of Christianity, and include the study of the great world religions. All aspects of religion tradition are covered, including scripture, historical development of belief and practice, ethics and spirituality. Because of Seton Hill’s mission, special attention is given to issues of justice, compassion, and peace-making.

Many opportunities for inter-religious dialogue are available to students through the National Catholic Center for Holocaust Education, housed at Seton Hill University; and with the wide variety of worship centers in the Pittsburgh area. Field visits are a common feature of courses in this program.

A self-designed minor is an excellent addition to majors preparing for work in political science, journalism, human service, social work, psychology, and other fields. Courses can be chosen in support of particular interests and professional preparation.

Experiential Learning
Field Trips, internships, a visiting scholars program, and opportunities for service and worship in cooperation with campus ministry offer additional possibilities for learning through direct experience.
