Tutoring Center

The goal of the Tutoring Center is to provide assistance to students who are developing their skills for independent learning.

Tutoring Staff
The tutors are Seton Hill University students who have been selected by course instructors. Faculty members make recommendations based on the tutorÕs knowledge of the subject area and ability to communicate with others.

The tutors are trained through a series of workshops, which emphasize techniques for diagnosing and meeting the needs of students. Tutors continue to consult with faculty about course content and faculty expectations of student performance.

About Tutoring Hours
Tutoring service is available by appointment and on a "walk-in" basis.

At the beginning of each semester, tutoring schedules are established to accommodate the needs of the students based on the demand for tutoring in each course, class schedules, and tutor availability. Tutoring information is announced in classes, posted on Griffin Gate under Campus Resources, posted in the Tutoring Center and printed in the Tutoring Center brochure. Brochures are available in the Tutoring Center, Admin 513.

Students, who are unable to meet with tutors during the scheduled Òwalk-inÓ hours, may make alternate arrangements by personally contacting the tutors.

What a tutor can do for a student
Tutors work with students individually and in small groups.

They conduct test review session, suggest effective study techniques, and give advice on the completion of assignments.

A student can expect a tutor to: be available, be prepared, be open, be patient, be sensitive, listen, encourage, maintain confidentiality, review/clarify notes, clarify concepts, answer questions, and explain/ demonstrate problems.
