Career Opportunities
Over the past decade, the number of students majoring in Sociology nationwide has increased by 60%. This reflects the fact that Sociology trains students for several professions that are experiencing rapid growth. Opportunities in non-profit agencies that employ Sociology graduates, such as agencies that serve the elderly and those with substance abuse problems are expected to expand significantly in coming years.
Where graduates work
A recent survey of alumni demonstrated that many Sociology majors have pursued graduate study, and that they are employed in a wide range of fields. Some examples of jobs held by graduates of the Sociology program are: elementary school teacher; therapeutic staff support for autistic children; university instructor; counselor for juvenile offenders; juvenile probation officer; human rights worker; and non-profit administrator.
