Political Science Program
Political relations are human relations. Political structures and organizations are a means through which human needs, including knowledge, are satisfied. National, state, and local government and international organizations, as well as school boards, corporations, and the corner drugstore, are all part of the political picture. The study of political science can provide a solid background needed for a wide variety of interesting careers.
The department suggests electives according to your area of emphasis and career plans: statistics, computer science, history, economics, sociology, or psychology. There are four recommended programs: graduate school, pre-law, secondary school, and general.
Internship Programs
Internship programs for qualified students in Washington, D.C. are available for both spring and fall semester of the junior year, and fall semester of the senior year; summer internships are also available. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania offers internships in Harrisburg, and the department will assist qualified students in acquiring them. Local part-time internships are also feasible; requirements vary among participating firms. Internships require the approval of the department chair.
You may study overseas for one semester of your junior or senior year for full credit, or for the entire junior year. You must have a reasonable command of the language of the host country.
