Honors Program
"The Honors Program at Seton Hill engages students with the right mix of aptitude and attitude. If you have this mix, you know you need to surround yourself with like-minded students. The Honors faculty address this need and say to you: 'We at Seton Hill value your insight and energy; please join others like yourself in our program."
John Michael Atherton, Ph.D.
Seton Hill U. Honors Program Director
Well-prepared, motivated and adaptable students have found a home in Seton Hill's Honors Program since 1930. If you enjoy academic challenge and would like to have the opportunity to research the topics that interest you, study abroad, or develop new skills that will prepare you to serve your community - with the support of faculty and fellow students who will push you to be your best and help you along the way - you will thrive in the Honors Program at Seton Hill.
Program Benefits
Academics
The Seton Hill Honors Program is for students who prefer courses with an additional academic challenge - but who aren't interested in adding a lot of extra classes to their course load. Our program allows Honors students to take Honors sections of four required liberal arts courses, in addition to one Honors seminar and one Honors Capstone Experience. The Capstone Experience is designed by the student in collaboration with a Seton Hill faculty member. Capstone Experiences can include a research project, a study abroad experience, or the completion of a community certification program. Seton Hill's Honors Program provides students with one-on-one academic support from professors and a strong network of classmates with similar academic interests. Upon completion of the program, Honors students receive "Honors" distinction at graduation and on academic transcripts, and letters of recommendation from the Honors Program Director.
Honors Housing
Seton Hill is pleased to offer select honors housing. This option is offered to first-time freshmen who plan to live on campus and have been accepted into the Honors Program. Students will enjoy living in the new DeChantal Hall, generally reserved for upperclassmen, with no increase in cost for the first year. Living amongst other honors scholars provides students with the opportunity to fully integrate the Honors Program into academic life. Spaces are limited, and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Honors Scholarships
Honors scholarships are awarded to new incoming freshman students who are accepted into the Honors Program. These awards are $2500 annually and are renewable for a total of eight semesters as long as the student remains in the Honors Program and maintains a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5.
