Brazil World Cup Study Away

Seton Hill University's Study Abroad Program offers students the opportunity to take intensive courses in other countries that are taught by Seton Hill faculty, or in foreign universities with which Seton Hill has partnership agreements. Through the Seton Hill Study Away Program, students have the benefit of Seton Hill faculty and classmates as travel guides and companions. 

Study Away Program courses are offered during Seton Hill's January and May terms.  The January term (J-Term) and May term (M-Term) are optional terms that allow students the opportunity to complete intensive 2 - 3 week long courses of study. 

In May 2014, Seton Hill MBA Sport Management students will have the opportunity to study and travel in Brazil, host of the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.   

In partnership with Sports Travel Academy, two Seton Hill University Business Division faculty members will lead this trip. The program will cater to those interested in global sports business and it is designed to provide students with an international perspective on marketing and facility management.

Courses offered include:

  • BU315 International Marketing (Global Perspectives). 
  • HT255 Facilities Management.
  • BU552 Special Topics in Sports Business.

Students and faculty will spend seven days and nights in Rio de Janeiro and seven days and nights in Sao Paulo. In addition to earning credit towards degree requirements, the tour package will include the following activities:

  • Guided City Coach tour of both Rio de Janeiro & Sao Paulo.
  • Academic presentations about the history and culture of Brazil and Brazilian sport from the Universidad Nove de Julho (UNINOVE).
  • Interaction and social exchange opportunities with UNINOVE students, including lunches, recreational athletic competitions and group discussion.
  • Two hour guided cultural walking tour of Rio de Janeiro (9-11 a.m.) and on the same day a three hour guided bike tour of Rio de Janeiro (1-4 p.m.)
  • Two hour guided cultural walking tour of Sao Paulo. 
  • 2.5 hour surf lessons at Ipanema Beach in Rio. We will have a student to coach_ratio of 10:1 and these lessons will include on-land fundamentals and coaches in the water with students assisting them with skills.
  • Tickets and guided tour of the Brazil History Museum in Rio. 
  • Guided tour of the famous Maracana Football Stadium in Rio & entrance to the Brazil Football Museum. This stadium was built for the 1950 World Cup and it will also host the 2014 Grand Final. The stadium is currently being renovated for both the World Cup and Olympics. 
  • Tijuca National Park day trip and guided tour (six hour duration). There is also an optional opportunity for students to zip line. 
  • Visit to Santos Football Club and tour of the stadium and the front office. 
  • Admission to one - two sporting events.
