System Requirements

Seton Hill University utilizes the JWEB learning management system as the delivery platform for all of its online courses. In order to maximize the potential usage of the JWEB system, there are minimum hardware and software specifications that must be met.

Hardware Requirements
A student enrolled in an online course or program should possess technology that meets the following minimum requirements in order to facilitate course delivery and completion of the required instructional activities:

  • Safari 1.2 (released 02/09/04, tested with JICS 4.2 and 5.0) for Mac OS X (10.3)
  • Safari 1.0 for Mac OS X (10.2)
Software Requirements
A student enrolled in an online course or program, using either a PC or Mac computer system, should have access to the following software applications/packages in order to facilitate course delivery and completion of the required instructional activities:
  • MS Office 2003 or newer version (2004 or newer version for Mac) Professional suite
  • Current anti-virus software is also highly recommended (Avast, AVG, McAfee, or Norton)
There are also several free software packages that a student will need in order to access a variety of instructional material such as streaming video, PDF files (portable document format files), etc. These resources are available as free downloads from the Web:
  • Adobe Acrobat
  • Shockwave Plug-in
  • Flash Plug-in
  • Windows Media Player
The following software packages are not required but may be used as additional resources. These resources are available as free downloads from the Web:
  • Google
  • QuickTime Player
  • Ad-Aware Personal
Please Note: JavaScript and Cookies must be enabled for JWEB to work properly. Pop-up Blockers must be disabled OR you may use the Ctrl key to override any pop-up blockers rather than completely disable them.

AOL Users
AOL's browser is not compatible with the JWEB system and SHU strongly recommends using a browser other than AOL to ensure the proper function of your online course site.
