Certificate Programs

Seton Hill University offers 10 certificate programs: child care, entrepreneurship, genocide and holocaust studies, graphic design, pastoral ministry, sacred music, orthodontics, music therapy, pre-med and writing popular fiction. Certificates are granted at the completion of each of these programs. Credits earned in them may be applied toward a baccalaureate degree.

Choral Conducting
Covers the basic elements of choral conducting, including physical components of conducting as well as rehearsal technique, ensemble tone, score study, selecting repertoire, and choral curriculum. Prerequisites: SMU261 and SMU262. Fall semester. 2 credits.

Instruction in conducting of instrumental ensembles, including score preparation and analysis, rehearsal strategies, baton technique and lab experience. Prerequisites: SMU261 and SMU262. Spring semester. 2 credits.

Survey of Christian Hymnody
An examination of Christian hymn-tunes and texts: their historical patterns, the environment from which they emerged, significant individuals who have contributed to hymnody, and theories of singing hymns in corporate worship. Fall semester, odd-numbered years. 2 credits.

Liturgy and Sacrament
An exploration of the theological meaning and ritual celebration of each of the seven sacraments, the liturgical year, the role of the arts in worship, and the planning of meaningful liturgical celebrations for major life events.
