Seton Hill Women's Volleyball
Head Coach Rick Hall: hall@setonhill.edu
The 2011 version of the Seton Hill volleyball team is taking part in a youth movement as this year’s team features just one senior and a fantastic group of seven freshmen. This year’s squad returns eight players who all saw time on the court last season and will be led by senior captain Rebecca Robinson and WVIAC All Freshman Team selection from last season Kelsey Profio. A strong group of freshmen will be looked upon to challenge all of the returnees for playing time and provide depth for the Griffins at all positions. This year’s squad is again under the leadership of longtime head coach and SHU Hall of Famer Rick Hall. Hall is assisted by his brother Bob and Sue Hahner.
Rebecca Robinson, the team’s only senior and two year captain, will be looked upon to lead the team on and off the court. An outside hitter, Robinson was third on last year’s team with 162 kills. She also added 45 blocks. The junior class of outside hitters Ashley Steinbach and Christina Donahoe along with middle hitter Lindsey Pavlikowski will look to help Robinson as leaders of the program. All three of the juniors saw extensive playing time as sophomores and will be looked upon for their veteran leadership with a very young squad. Steinbach and Pavlikowski will also serve as team captains this season. Steinbach was second on the team with 184 kills. Pavlikowski led the Griffins in blocks with 46 last season and Donahoe’a all around game will be a big key for the Griffins in 2011. She had 13 kills, 98 digs and 4 blocks during her sophomore season.
The sophomore class is led by WVIAC All Freshman Team selection Kelsey Profio. As a freshman, Profio ran the Griffin offense as one of the team’s setters and finished the season with 631 assists. She also added 21 service aces. Another setter, Rachel Dindak is looking to come back after surgery and get back to the form she had last season. Defensive specialist Katie Bloomgren was second on last year’s team in digs with 184 and looks to lead the squad in that category this season. Middle hitter Chelsey Regovich came on strong in the second half of the season and looks continue that strong play into this season. Regovich hit .302 last season.
This year’s freshman class includes setter Courtney Field (Pottsville, PA/Nativity BVM). Courtney received PIAA District Xl 1st team honors from 2007 – 2010 as well as MVP honors for the 2010 season. Field was also voted to the PVCA Class A All State & All Tournament Teams for the 2009 & 2010 seasons. Middle hitters Corrine Gahagen (Windber, PA/Windber), who received the Somerset County MVP Award as well as being named to the PVCA AA State Championship All Tournament Team, Larissa Santangelo (New Middletown, OH/Springfield Local), who holds school records for total blocks in a season, solo blocks and career blocks at Springfield Local and Alexis Cerminara (Pittsburgh, PA/Brentwood). Outside hitters Paige Baker (Kittanning, PA/Elderton), who was selected to the 1st Team All Section and WPIAL Teams for the years of 2008 – 2010, and Jenna Snyder(Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin), who earned 1st Team All Section and WPIAL honors for the 2010 season. Snyder was also named MSA Player of the Year for WPIAL AAA. Defensive specialist Olivia Mathews (Hilliard, OH/Hilliard Darby), who was selected as team MVP & Best Defensive Player as well as First Team All OCC, round out the freshman class.
The Griffins will open the 2010 season at the Glenville State Tournament on the weekend of September 2-3. SHU will open WVIAC play with a road trip to Shepherd, WV Wesleyan and Glenville State in late September. The home opener will be on September 30 when Alderson Broaddus comes to Greensburg. The Griffins will also play in the Gannon, Davis & Elkins and Palm Beach Atlantic Tournaments and will take part in the WVIAC Tournament in early November.
