Seton Hill Women's Soccer

The 2011 version of the Seton Hill women’s soccer team is looking to compete for a conference championship in their fourth season of competition in the WVIAC. The Griffins are looking to rebound from a 2010 season in which they finished 8-11 overall and 4-5 in WVIAC play, good for sixth place, and were eliminated by Alderson Broaddus in a heartbreaker in the first round of the WVIAC Tournament.

This year’s squad returns 8 of 11 starters from last season, including two All WVIAC performers, and will be hoping to use the experience gained last season to make a run at a WVIAC championship this fall. Six newcomers to the squad will also be looked upon to challenge the returning starters from last season and give head coach John Fogle the depth necessary to be competitive in the WVIAC.

Up front the Griffins return three forwards who saw significant time as starters last season. Senior Amber Mondock alongside junior Mackiesh Taylor and sophomore Madison Gourley will be counted on to provide the Griffins offense a number of goals this season. Taylor led the Griffins in goals with 9 and was an All WVIAC second team selection. Gourley added 5 goals and was the team’s second leading scorer as a freshman. Freshman Andrea Wisniewski from Scottdale, PA gives the Griffins the added depth up front to challenge all of the backlines of the Griffin opponents.

The midfield could be the strongest part of the Griffins team this season as they return nine players who have seen significant playing time over their careers on the hill. It includes senior Julia Deluca, Jackie Fawcett, junior Alysha Alaimo and sophomores Katelyn Wiater, Jessica Adams and Brenna O’Leary. Fawcett has been a starter since arriving on the hill and wants to end her college career on the right foot with a WVIAC championship. Fawcett was also selected as an All WVIAC performer last season. Wiater also scored 5 goals in her freshman season.

The Griffins will need some new faces to step up on defense this season as they need to replace Danielle Owens, Angela Palumbo and Colleen Ereditario who graduated last season and were the leaders of the Griffin backline. Seniors Lauren Sauter and Lauren Freeman along with transfer Ashley Henderson will be looked upon to lead the Griffin defense this season. Sophomores Kara Lopoyda and Jenna Luczka along with freshmen Erika Wisniewski from Scottdale, PA, Breanne Loveland from Cheswick, PA and Jessica Walton from Mt Pleasant, PA will give the Griffin backline the added depth needed to compete with the strong teams in the WVIAC. Bethany Winter returns for her second season in goal with the Griffins. Freshman keeper Lindsey Lash from Belle Vernon, PA will also see some time in the net.

SHU will open the season hosting Malone before traveling to Slippery Rock and Point Park for their first road trip. The Griffins will open up WVIAC play on September 10th when they host Concord and will wrap up the regular season on October 26th when they host Wheeling Jesuit.
